About back up and sync

What you need to support photos & videos

  • Adept internet connection.
  • File sizes that can be backed upwards.  Your files won't be backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that can exist backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos tin can exist backed up if you use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

Important: Your Google Account storage is shared beyond multiple products like Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. If you accept used all of your storage, you won't exist able to back up new files.

There are 2 ways to back upwards your telephone, photographic camera, or storage card from your figurer:

  1. Install Backup and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Gear up Google Drive for desktop

  1. On your reckoner, download and install Google Bulldoze for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to back up and thenBack up to Google Photos.
  4. Select Washed and thenSave.

Important:

  • If you remove a photograph or video from your computer that you lot previously backed upwards to Google Photos, it stays in Google Photos.
  • If you lot remove a photograph or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Bulldoze or your reckoner.
  • Uploads tin can exist slower and use more storage if you lot back up to both Google Photos and Google Drive. Unless you need a second copy in Drive, we recommend you back up photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you already have Fill-in and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If you already take Backup and Sync installed, you'll be migrated to Google Bulldoze for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Backup and Sync and so follow the steps above to prepare Google Drive for desktop.

Select a different upload size

You can change the upload size for photos and videos backed upward to Google Photos from your computer.

Important: You tin can't change the upload size for files synced with Google Drive.

Back upwards your Apple Photo Library (Mac but)

If your computer runs macOS, you tin can dorsum upwards your Arrangement Photograph Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If yous have more than than one Apple tree Photos Library, simply the System Photograph Library will be backed up. Y'all can use Apple tree Photos to change the Arrangement Photo Library.
  • If your Apple tree Photo Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and cloud will exist backed up to Google Photos on macOS 10.15 and above.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your computer, open up photos.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Upload and thenCalculator.
  3. Find and select your photos.
  4. Click Open.

You lot can also drag photos from your computer to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If you drag a photo to a specific album, the photograph will be uploaded to that anthology.

View where your photos & videos were uploaded from

In Google Photos, you can view how y'all uploaded your photos and videos.
